Marcus Valdez
Marcus was born in Denver and grew up in Fort Collins. In 1992, he participated in the Vans World Amateur Skateboarding Finals. After his stint as a sponsored skateboarder, Marcus opened The Market, a skateboard and snowboard shop in downtown Fort Collins. With an interest in real estate investing, Marcus purchased the building where his shop is located. The purchase turned out to be a very successful investment and launched his new career in real estate. In addition to investing, he founded a sprinkler and landscaping company to help offset costs and maximize profits on his properties. Having eight years of real estate investment experience under his belt, Marcus ultimately decided to get his real estate license in 2004.
Marcus maintains ownership of both businesses while developing his position as a
leader in real estate. He gives back to the community by putting his 20 years of skateboarding experience to work for the city. He has designed two skate parks in Fort Collins to date and puts on numerous skateboarding events for local youth.
Marcus is married to his high school sweetheart, Melissa, and has three
beautiful children.
Shelley Chaput
Shelley was born in upstate New York and moved to Cincinnati with her family in 1979. After living there for eight years, her family decided to relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1990 and went on to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. Shelley graduated with a degree in Sociology in 1994, and also met her future husband that year. She worked as a Real Estate assistant in Fort Collins for a year after graduating, and then got her license in 1997 while working at RE/MAX of Boulder. She then moved back to Fort Collins in November of 1997 at which time she worked for 1st American Heritage Title.
Shelley became a licensed Real Estate assistant for a local agent at RE/MAX Advanced until September of 2001 and then worked for a mortgage company until the end of 2002. She got married in February of 2002 and began working as a Closer at Stuart Title. After only six months of working there, Shelley realized that was not the path she wanted to take. She loves working with people and helping them find the right home, and working as a Closer didn't satisfy that desire. After meeting Berin, Shelley says, "we realized that if we combined both of our skills, we could make a dynamic Real Estate team. Berin's expertise lies more in investment properties where my expertise lies more in helping people find the home of their dreams."
Shelley has worked at Title Companies, Mortgage Companies, and Real Estate Agencies and has seen and worked on all sides of real estate transactions. "From seeing the different aspects of the business, I feel that I have a well-rounded understanding of the entire real estate process." Shelley currently lives on the East side of Fort Collins with her husband, her two dogs and two cats. "We enjoy taking advantage of Colorado's natural environment by camping, hiking, boating, cycling and anything outdoors."
